Are your candles Toxic?
There’s an abundance of amazing candles out there. Many come in different, shapes, sizes, jars etc. When we pick up a candle we never think of checking the actual ingredients it takes to make a yummy smelling candle. We at Bethel & Co are here to share a few tips when picking out your next fragrance candle.
This may be an odd object to talk about but its very important. Although colored jars are beautiful you have to be aware of the type of coating your jars have. Our Amber Jars have a translucent amber coating on the outside of the jar, giving the container an amber-hue for an added vintage flair. Most importantly they are Prop 65 Warning Free. In a nutshell Proposition 65 regulates substances officially listed by California as causing cancer or birth defects. Since our jars don’t need a prop 65 warning you can burn candles at ease.
The type of wax that is used is HIGHLY important. One of the most common types of waxes are Paraffin and Soy based Wax. Paraffin wax is colorless or white wax made of petroleum. It has been claimed that paraffin wax releases toxic fumes when burnt. Soy wax on the other hand is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. One of our favorite reasons to use Soy wax is because it gives your candle a longer lifespan I.E your candle burns slower and it has NO TOXINS when burning #FTW (ftw = for the win) ;)
Scents *AHH* my favorite topic. Scents are amazing and so much fun to work with. We at Bethel & Co use a mixture of Organic Essential oils & Fragrances that are 100% Phthalates Free. Phthalates are chemicals that make plastic soft and flexible. Recently, there have been concerns that high levels of Phthalates can cause a host of health issues which is why they are a NO-NO in our products.
We hope you enjoyed these quick facts and learned something about your candles. We look forward to connect with others from around the globe to share our knowledge and important facts on candles.
